Shakhter failed to snatch points from the battle against the reigning champions Astana in a rescheduled Kazakhstan Premier League Week 25 fixture, initially set for August 27.

A second-half strike from Junior Kabananga proved enough for FC Astana to beat Shakhter Karagandy 1-0 away from home.

In the game that has been held at the Metallurg in Temirtau, Shakhter's second-choice ground, the DR Congo international hit on the rebound from a penalty after his spot-kick was parried by custodian Igor Shatsky.

Despite the slim scoreline and a post-match disappointment with his side's performance expressed by coach Stanimir Stoilov, the visitors have recorded a convincing victory to get back on track following their previous draw with Tobol Kostanay.

Stoilov's outfit had a lot of roster issues in the wake of the international football session their numerous team members were involved in in recent days.

However, they dominated for much of the contest and struck the post twice before taking the deserved lead in the 70th minute.

The Pitmen could not level the terms, meaning Astana reclaimed top position from Kairat Almaty. With a one-point advantage and two games in hand, the capital city club is well on its way to clinch another league triumph.

For their part, Shakhter remained seventh, with good chances of preserving their top-flight status as they sit seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, PFLK has informed about the six-point deduction received by FC Taraz due to the club's debt to its former player Obiora Odita.

Following the punishment, reportedly triggered by FIFA, Taraz slipped from ninth place to 11th in the league table where they now lie three points behind FC Aktobe and Akzhayik Oral.
